9 Day Lhasa surrounding Tour

Day 01: Arrive at Lhasa

Arrival at train station or airport in Lhasa, our guide and driver will pick you up and transfer you to hotel for acclimatization; you can have your free time hanging out at this holy city to get the first impression of Tibet.

Day 02: Lhasa-Jokhang temple -Barkhore square -Ramoche Temple

Morning visit the Jokhang temple is the most sacred temple in Tibet . In Tibetan language it refers to “Buddha’s house” because the main statue is said to be made by Buddha Sakyamuni himself time. The Jokhang temple is the convergence of Tibet’s spiritual and secular life. Here you can meet all kinds of tribes from the Tibetan plateau. The surrounding market is called “Bakhore”. One of the most important religious paths.

Afternoon visit the Ramoche temple: Ramoche temple is considered to be the sister temple to the Jokhang  which was completed about the same time. Tradition says that it was built originally to house the much revered Jowo Rinpoche statue, carried to Lhasa via Lhagang in a wooden cart, brought to Tibet when Princess Wencheng came to Lhasa.

Day 03: Lhasa -Potala palace-Nobulingka summer palaces of successive Dalai Lamas

Morning visit the Potala palace towers above the city of Lhasa as the national landmark that allures the international visitors. The massive 13-storeyed building used to be the former abode for the Dalai lamas. It looks incredibly magnificent from a distance and could be viewed from various places around town. As the nation’s supreme relic, the palace dates back to the seventh century A.D.

Afternoon visit the Norbulingka summer palace the former summer palace of Dalai Lamas  built in during the 18th century by seven Dalai lama.  Explore the beautiful gardens and experience one of the most holy sites in Tibetan Buddhism while soaking up the rich history

Day 04: Lhasa-Drepung monastery-Sera monastery

Drepung monastery was founded in 1416 by a charismatic monk and disciple of Tsongkhapa called Jamyang Choji.  Within just a year of the completion the monastery had attracted a population of some 2000 monks.  In 1530 the second Dalai lama established the Gaden Palace, the palace that was home to the Dalai lamas until the fifth built the Potala palace.  It was from here that the early Dalai lamas exercised their political as well as religious control over central Tibet, and the second, third and fourth Dalai lamas are entombed here.

Afternoon visit the Sera monastery: All the Gelugpa monasteries history is strongly connected to Master Lama Tsongkhapa (1357–1419), the founder of the Gelugpa order, the much venerated and highly learned guru in Buddhist scriptures. The Sera Monastery at the foot of Sera Uste  Hill is located 2 kilometres northern of Lhasa. It is one of the “great three” Gelukpa university monasteries of Tibet

Day 05: Lhasa-Gaden monastery-Tridrum Nunnery(hotspring)

After breakfast, Drive to visit Ganden Monastery which is about 60Km away from Lhasa. Then drive to Tidrum Nunnery, it has a great location in a narrow gorge at the confluence of two streams. You can have the famous medicinal hot-springs there.

Day 06: Tridrum nunnery-Drigung Til monastery -Reting monastery

Early drive to Drigung Til. It is one the holiest sky-burial site in Lhasa region, if you want to see the sky-burial, you need to ask for the permission from the the family of the deceased and the senior lama who conducts the ceremony. After that, we continue our drive through the Changthang plains to Reting Monastery. Reting Monastery is an important Gelukpa monastery in Central Tibet, situated in a sprawling juniper clad hill.

Day 07: Reting monastery-Namsto lake

Today we will drive to Namtso Lake, the 2nd largest salt-water lake in Tibet. The Nyenchen Thangla mountain ranges tower over the lake. During the summer months Namtso is dotted with nomad herders and their yaks and tents. Walk around the lake and you can find some Mani Ringmo by the lake drive back to Damxung town

Day 08: Damxung -Tsurphu monastery -Lhasa

Morning  drive back to Lhasa. On the way, visit Tsurphu Monatery which is the seat of the Karmapa branch of the Kagyupa order of Tibetan Buddhism. End of the trip in Lhasa.

Day 09: Depart Lhasa

Our guide and driver will transfer you to the Lhasa airport or train station and end the Tibet part tour
